About the Role
Our client, a leading international law firm with a global network spanning more than 70 offices across over 40 countries, is looking to establish a regulatory and specialist commercial practice serving financial services institutions in Singapore. This includes banks, finance providers, payment institutions, platforms, markets and trading facilities, funds and fund managers, investment managers, insurers and insurance intermediaries, as well as innovative Fintech and Techfin start-ups.
The new Financial Services practice will sit within the firm's Finance group and complement its existing finance, technology and corporate practices. The role offers a rich variety of work spanning asset management, funds, insurance, banking, alternative finance, crypto, consumer and consumer credit sectors, with significant volume anticipated as Singapore's regulatory landscape continues to evolve. The firm has an established global presence advising on crypto, DeFi, NFT, metaverse, Web3 and digital asset matters, and the successful candidate will work closely with international financial services, regulatory and crypto teams.
The firm is seeking a driven, commercially aware Senior Associate or Counsel to specialise in non-contentious regulatory and/or specialist commercial work and help grow this new practice area.
Key Responsibilities
• Advise financial institutions on regulatory matters relating to product and service development, as well as significant transactional and operational change projects
• Support clients navigating regulatory capital requirements, outsourcing and operational risk requirements, and market consolidation
• Advise on crypto and digital asset products and business models, including token structuring and related regulatory considerations
• Collaborate closely with international financial services, regulatory and crypto teams across the firm's global network
• Help build out and grow a new specialist practice within the Singapore office
Key Requirements
• 3-7 years PQE gained at a top law firm, financial institution, or as an industry participant
• Singapore qualified
• Solid experience in financial services regulatory and/or commercial/transactional work for financial institutions
• Familiarity with Singapore financial regulations, including the Payment Services Act, the Securities and Futures Act and related MAS regulations
• Self-motivated with a strong team player mindset
• Knowledge of or interest in crypto, NFT, Web3 and metaverse, and understanding of tokenomics and crypto business models, would be advantageous but not essential
• Experience with cryptoasset regulation, such as token opinions or business structuring, would be a bonus
